Quintette MORAGUES

Michel Moraguès (flute) – Pascal Moraguès (clarinet) – Pierre Moraguès (horn) – David Walter (oboe) – Patrick Vilaire (bassoon)

Grand Prix winner of the Nouvelle Académie du Disque, nominated for the Victoires de la Musique 1994, Laureate of the Yehudi Menuhin and Samson Francois Foundations.
It was back in 1980, that five young laureates of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris created the Moraguès Quintet. Very soon, this group revealed the complexity and richness of its timbers - combining five sonorities that were so different was a very challenging task.
It is in this very challenge that the Moraguès Quintet finds some of its ambition. “A long, hard road”, especially as the group's existing repertoire was relatively poor, excepting 20th century music - a handicap that was rapidly surmounted thanks to David Walter's adaptations of works originally written for other groups. This wind quintet thus found its second breath and incorporated into its programming works ranging from the18th to the 20th century.

Today, three members of the Moraguès Quintet are soloists with the National Orchestra of France, the Paris Opera Orchestra, and the Paris Orchestra, and two are professors at the National Conservatory of Chalon sur Saone, and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris.
The Moraguès Quintet has performed in great Parisian theaters and series: Théatre des Champs-Elysées, Théatre du Chatelet, Salle Gaveau, Orsay Museum, Louvre Auditorium, etc. It is regularly invited to the Radio-France Festival of Montpellier, to the Roque d'Anthéron, to the Périgord Noir Festival, the Rencontres Musicales de la Baule, etc. as well as abroad: Japan (1997 tour), Germany (tour in 1995), U.S.A., Switzerland, Holland, Eastern Europe, etc. Overall, it has performed more than 350 concerts since it was created.
Its partners are Christian Zacharias, Jean-Claude Pennetier, Michel Dalberto, Alain Planès, Pascal Rogé, Georges Pludermacher and Christian Ivaldi. The Moraguès Quintet effectuated a triumphant tour in 1996 in Paris and the provinces, with the great Russian pianist, Sviatoslav Richter, a tour which culminated at the Pouchkine Museum of Moscow. The recording of this last concert was released as a box set (2 Philip's CDs) devoted to the art of Sviatoslav Richter.
2000 is the year of the 20th anniversary of the Moraguès Quintet.

The Moraguès Quintet has recorded several records, notably with Auvidis-Valois and le Chant du Monde, including records dedicated to 20th century music, to Mendelsshon and W.A. Mozart, which were enthusiastically acclaimed by the press, obtaining the Grand Prix of the Nouvelle Académie du Disque.
The Billaudot Editions already offers within their Moraguès Quintet collection, a certain number of David Walter's transcriptions.
