Guido Johannes RUMSTADT

 

GUIDO JOHANNES RUMSTADT was born in Heidelberg in 1960.

After studies in Karlsruhe, Hamburg and Salzburg, he was engaged successively in Mainz, Karlsruhe and Wiesbaden.
He has appeared as guest conductor in Frankfurt, Duesseldorf, Hannover, Coburg and Mannheim, and has a broad repertoire of operas, operettas and ballets.
In 1993 he became Erster Kapellmeister in Frankfurt and every summer, he conducts at the Schlossfestspiele Zwingenberg, which he founded in 1983 and of which he remains the Artistic Director.

Guido Rumstadt also works in the orchestra field conducting the Hamburg Philharmonic, Philharmonic orchestra of Essen, Frankfurt Museumsorchester and the Orchestre National de Belgique.
He recently made his debuts with the Ulster Orchestra in Belfast, and the Halle Orchestra at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall.

Guido Rumstadt has worked with several opera companies conducting the Zauberfloete at the International Mozart Week in Salzburg. Der Rosenkavalier, La Favorita, The Rake’s Progress and From the House of the Dead at Theatre de la Monnaie in Brussels, Orpheus in the Underworld at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Marschner’s Der Vampyr at the Wexford Festival, Maria Stuarda at the Buxton Festival and Don Giovanni in Nice.

In his capacity as 1. Kappelmeister from September 1993 on, Maestro Rumstadt started collaborating with Sylvain Cambreling in Frankfurt where he already conducted performances of Barbiere di Siviglia, Lohengrin, Matrimonio Segreto, Elektra,
Der Rosenkavalier, Boris Godunov, Jenufa, Salomé, Don Giovanni, La Bohème, Ariadne auf Naxos, to name but a few of the works he already performed on stage

He is regularly invited by the Nantes Opera, where he already conducted Pelleas et Melisande, Jenufa, La Rondine, From the House of the Dead etc...

Guido Rumstadt recently made his debuts with the English National Opera, conducting Rigoletto and Den Norske Opera with La Bohème. Other recent engagements included a new production of Die Freischütz plus a premiere of The Diary of Anne Frank in Frankfurt, where he also conducted Fidelio.

Among his forthcoming highlights Butterfly in Colgone and at the New York City Opera, Finta Semplice at the Buxton Festival, Die Zauberflöte in Nantes, Don Giovanni and Ariadne auf Naxos in Frankfurt, as well as a concert in Munich with the Mozarteum orchestra and Salomé in the Netherlands

In 1983 he founded the Schlossfestspiele Zwingenberg, of which he remains the Artistic Director.

His recent highlights include a return to Oslo for further performances of La Bohème with Den Norske Opera and his American debut conducting Madama Butterfly for New York City Opera.

In September 1998 Guido Johannes Rumstadt took up the prestigious position of General Musik Direktor of the Opera Regensburg.
