Vladimir SPIVAKOV is a truly remarkable musician:
a magnificent violinist, a superb conductor, a man of vision who has founded,
molded and guided one of today'smost exciting chamber ensembles the Moscow
Virtuosi.
Vladimir SPIVAKOV was born in Ufa, a town in the
Ural Mountains, and trained at the Moscow Conservatory with Yuri Yankelevich
and for five years with Professor Guzman, a close friend to Shostakovitch.
He quickly established himself as one of Russia's pre-eminent violinists
- a reputation which was confirmed instantly at his debut with the New
York Philharmonic in 1975.
In the summer of 1979, already internationally
acclaimed as a violinist, Vladimir SPIVAKOV took a new step in his career:
he made his debut as a conductor. It was at the Ravinia Festival with
the Chicago Symphony and meant a big triumph for him.
While Vladimir SPIVAKOV is closely identified
with the Moscow Virtuosi as its founder, conductor and principal violin
soloist, he also pursues a major solo career.He performs regularly with
the greatest orchestras throughout the world.
He is a regular guest conductor with the State Symphony of Russia, the
Santa Cecilia Orchestra in Rome, the London Symphony, the St Petersburg
Philharmonic Orchestra, the English and Scottish Chamber Orchestras, and
chamber orchestras of England, Dresden, Rome, of the Netherlands, etc.
Among last seasons highlights Vladimir SPIVAKOV performed several outstanding
concerts in Moscow both as soloist and conductor, in Roma with the Santa
Cecilia Orchestra under Y. Temirkanov, in Paris with the Orchestre Philharmonique
de Radio France as conductor and then as soloist with the Orchestre de
Paris, with the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, in Madrid with the Moscow
Virtuosi in presence of Prince Felipe and soon...
His engagements during 1997/1998 season included performances with the
Mostly MozartFestival Orchestra in New York and a few months later in
Carnegie Hall, at theLucerne Festival, a musical cruise with M. Rostropovitch,
concerts in Bonn under R. Benzi, in Toulouse, Cannes, in San Francisco
as conductor, in England with the Bournemouth Orchestra under Yakov Kreizberg
(Sibelius Concerto), a recital with pianist Kun Woo Paik at the Théâtre
des Champs-Elysées in Paris, and so on...
With the Moscow Virtuosi Vladimir SPIVAKOV will
also be touring next season Italy, including the Stresa Festival, Germany
(notably Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg), the USA (including a concert in
NewYork at Carnegie Hall), Spain, Russia.
He became in 1988 music and artistic director
of the Colmar Festival. Fromscratch it gradually became internationally
recognised as one of the "pearls" among the European festivals.
Vladimir SPIVAKOV has also made numerous recordings
as a soloist including several with Temirkanov: all the great concerti
like the Tchaïkovsky, Prokofiev, Brahms, etc...
The Sibelius Concerto under Temirkanov and the
Saint Petersburg Symphony just cameout and has got raves particularly
in the American press.
His solo albums include 20th-Century pieces for
violin and Brahms Sonatas with Mikhail Rudy.
After a series of triumphs in recitals throughout
Europe, startingat the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées
in Paris, then in Madrid, New York,Moscow, Italy, etc
Vladimir Spivakov
got an absolute triumph in five concerts inwhich he performed Sibelius
Violin Concerto throughout England. He got fabulous reviews and ovations
from the public. Same reaction when he performed seven times the Brahms's
concerto around Paris and finally in Paris - Salle Pleyel.
He is playing since October 1997 one of the greatest
Stradivarius of the worldcalled Hrimali, which is simply a wonder.
In 1999 he is nominated Music Director and Principal
Conductor of the Russian National Orchestra succeeding to Mikhail Pletnev.
Vladimir SPIVAKOV has been decorated with Russia's
highest prize, the National Cultural Heritage Award, and he is the ambassador
of Arts at the world Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Vladimir SPIVAKOV is the founder of the European Sakharov Foundation.
On his birthday in 1994 the Russian International
Observatory named a planet Spivakov.
