Vahan
MARDIROSSIAN |
Vahan MARDIROSSIAN was born in
Yerevan, Armenia. In 1993, he entered the Paris Conservatoire (CNSM) in
Jacques ROUVIER's piano class. He was also admitted to Jean MOUILLÈRE's
chamber music class along with Nicolas Baldeyrou (clarinet) and Renaud
Dejardin (cello), with whom he formed the Mardirossian Trio.
In 1996, Vahan Mardirossian was awarded First Prize for piano, the chamber
music Prize, and the Conservatoire's highest diploma, enabling him to
go on to postgraduate studies. For two years, he furthered his training,
following the advice of Jacques ROUVIER and taking part in many master
classes given by great musicians including G.SEBÔK, D.BASHKIROV,
C.FRANCK, and J-P.COLLARD.
Vahan Mardirossian has given recitals
in many countries (Austria, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, England, France,
Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Israel, Japan, Lebanon, Lithuania, Morocco,
Nederland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine, USA
…) and his performances have been broadcast in France and elsewhere.
His partners in chamber music include fine musicians such as Nicolas BALDEYROU,
Renaud CAPUCON, Gautier CAPUCON, Quartet CASTAGNERI, Ha Nah CHANG, Stéphanie-Marie
DEGAND, Henri DEMARQUETTE, Devy ERLIH, Thierry ESCAICH, Richard GALLIANO,
David GRIMAL, Grigori JISLIN, Jean MOUILLÈRE, Philippe MULLER,
Arto NORAS, Jean-Marc PHILLIPS-VARJABEDIAN, Xavier PHILLIPS, Jean TER-MERGUERIAN,
Quartet YSAÏE...
Vahan Mardirossian came to the attention of Ivry GITLIS, who suggested
that they play sonatas together. He has also worked with Mstislav ROSTROPOVICH
- together they worked on the first performance of Eric Tanguy's Cello
Concerto No.2, with Henri DUTILLEUX, on his Piano Sonata and Krzysztof
PENDERECKI on his sextet.
Since his debut as a pianist, he has regularly been invited to appear
with orchestras including the Orchestre National de France, Yerevan Chamber
Orchestra, the Armenian Philharmonic, the Paris International Orchestra,
the Bienne Symphonic Orchestra, the Portugal Symphonic Orchestra, the
Lebanon National Orchestra, the Cannes Orchestra, the Ensemble Orchestral
of Paris, the Pau Orchestra, the Paris Conservatory Orchestra… And
he has appeared at many festivals : La Roque d'Anthéron, Piano
aux Jacobins, Cortona Festival, Festival of Menton, Auvers sur Oise, Piano
en Vallois, Rheims (Flâneries Musicales), Cannes (Midem), Chamonix
(Les Semaines Musicales du Mont Blanc), Les Arcs (Festival International),
Séville (Music Season), Paris (Les TransClassiques), Bagatelle
(Chopin Festival), La Chaise Dieu…
He is interested in contemporary music and his research has led him to
work in close collaboration with the composer Eric TANGUY. The latter
dedicated his second Piano Sonata to Vahan Mardirossian. Following his
recital in Paris in April 2001, the newspaper Le Monde devoted a half-page
article to Vahan Mardirossian, headed ‘PIANISTE PHENOMENAL!’
Vahan Mardirossian recently made a recording of works by Schubert, Händel
and Brahms for the INTRADA label. He also made a live recording devoted
to piano works by Eric Tanguy, and J.S.Bach Transcriptions recorded for
TransArt Live label.
In 2005 Vahan Mardirossian made his debut with French National Orchestra,
in Paris with Yutaka Sado and in Spain with Kurt Masur.
In 2006, Vahan Mardirossian is
invited by Kurt Masur to the Conducting Seminar in New York. Following
a selection, he conducts the Manhattan School Orchestra. He is also the
founder of the “Maestria” Chamber Orchestra, with whom he
performs in the Halle aux Grains in Toulouse and for a Parisian debut
in the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in December 2006.
2008-2009 “Maestria” is in residence in “Invalides”
in Paris. Vahan Mardirossian also made his debut as conductor with Armenian
Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra “Amalgames”, Cannes-Province
Côte d’Azur Orchestra and The Orchestra of the Opera of Toulon.
2007 was marked by the release
of a recording dedicated to Armenian music (including two of his own works),
with Jean-Marc Phillips-Varjabedian and Xavier Phillips, and a Liszt recital
for the Lontano-Warner label.
