Lauri VASAR

 

Lauri Vasar was born in Tallinn, Estonia.

After studies at the Academy of Music in Tallinn (diploma violin, viola and song), he is member in the chamber orchestra of Estonian youth, and makes his debut at the Estonian national opera in 1999.
He continues his studies at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.

In June 1999, he sings Ravel "Don Quichotte in Dulcinée" at the Mozarteum with Dennis Russell Davies.

In March 2000, he makes his debuts in USA with Mozart Opera Recital in Chicago; Beethoven 9th Symphony in Chicago; recital Strauss and Rachmaninov in Chicago Symphony Center; Bruckner mass, Chicago.
In 2001 he sings at the Gut-Immling Festival the father in “Hansel and Gretel” of Humperdinck and Dandini in "Cenerentola".

In April 2002, he begins in San Carlo in Naples in "Capriccio" from Richard Strauss.
In Landestheater Salzbourg, he interprets the baritone part in Carl Orff "Carmina Burana".
In July 2002, he begins with the Salzburg Festival in Egon Wellesz - "Bacchantes" and in Verdi’s "Don Carlos".

From 2002 to 2006 he is in troop at Linz, where he sings Papageno, Guglielmo, Belcore in "Elisir d`amore", Pantalone in "L’Amour des Trois Oranges", Posa in "Don Carlos", Valentine in “Faust”, Jakob Lenz de Rihm Escamillo, Falke in "the Bat" and Lescaut in "Manon Lescaut" of Puccini.

Later, Lauri Vasar made a replacement in the role of Al Kasim in "Upupa" by Henze at the Teatro Real in Madrid. At the request of the composer, this role was also proposed to him in Lyon and in 2006 in Genova. He will sing it in concert version in Tokyo with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra in 2007.

With the State Opera Hamburg, he sings 2006 "Tri Sestri" in "2006 by Eötvös. In June 2006, he sings again at the Teatro Real in "Dialogues des Carmelites”.
2006/07 he will be Wolfram in “Tannhäuser” in Hanover, and Orfeo ( Monteverdi) and the title role in « Il Prigioniero » by Dallapicola.
