The Faroese Bass Rúni Brattaberg first graduated as a documentary photographer in Copenhagen, before he trained to be a singer. He studied at the Sibelius Academy Helsinki, the International Operastudio Zürich and privately with Wentzeslav Katsarov in Bulgaria. During this period he made his debut as King Philip in Don Carlos at the State Theatre Stara Zagora under the baton of Dragomir Nenov. From 2001-2005 Rúni Brattaberg was engaged as a soloist at the State Theatre Mainz in Germany, where he sang among others Daland, Sparafucile, Basilio, Grande Inquisitore and Eremit The british composer Gavin Bryars
wrote for him the piece “From Egil´s Saga” for solobass,
orchestra and choir, which had its world-premiere in Nov 2004 in Cambridge,
with “London Sinfonietta” under the baton of Olari Elts. 2005-6 He was engaged at the Bern Opera, where he sang Padre Guardiano, Bonzo and Orlik. With the Flamish Radio Orchestra he sang in 2006 the Commendatore at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam From 2006 he was engaged at the Theatres in Bonn and Ulm where he sang Sarastro, Caspar, Osmin, Banco, Seneca, Peter Quince, Prince Gremin and Doktor in Wozzeck .. At the “Detmolder Ring”
he made his debut as Hunding in September 2006 In 2008 he makes his debut at the Paris Opera Bastille. In April 2009 the Metropolitan
Opera New York has engaged him as cover for Hagen in the Ring
