Nicolas COURJAL

Born in France, he first studies at the Conservatoire in Rennes and then in Paris with Jane Berbié at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique. He takes part in Master classes by P. von Shilwasky and by Christa Ludwig.
He enters the company of the Opera Comique in Paris and sings there “ La Cantatrice Chauve” by Chaylly, “Il Matrimonio Segreto” by Cimarosa and “La Finta Simplice” by Mozart, “Le Quatro Rusteghi” by Wolf-Ferrari “Der Kaiser von Atlantis” by Uhlmann and “Le Dernier Jour de Socrate”, création of G.Finzi. He also sings Coline in “La Bohème”.

Nicolas COURJAL already did recitals like in Paris Orsay, 1998, in Strasbourg and in Germany where he belongs notably to the company of the Mannheim Theatre and he sings also in Heidelberg.

He creates Marius Constant “ Une Saison en Enfer ” in Monte-Carlo which has been also given at the Espace Cardin in Paris 1999 and takes part in Monaco in the recording of “Elefant Man” by the French conductor and composer Laurent Petitgirard. He is Masetto in Tours in 2000.

2000/2001 he belongs to the company of the Theatre of Wiesbaden (Germany) where he is regularly singing the Eremite in “Freischütz”, Crespelel in “Les Contes d'‘Hoffmann”, Tom (Ballo in Maschera), Micha.
(“The Barders’ Bride”), Zuniga (“Carmen”), and Reimar von Zweter in Tannhäuser.

He also takes part in the Wexford Festival 20001/02 in “Sapho” by Massenet and in “Madame Butterfly” and then he will be Truffaldino in “Ariadne auf Naxos” in Lyon as well as at the Paris Châtelet, conducted by I. Fischer where he will be also singing Lamoral in “Arabella” (conductor C. von Dohnannyi).

2OO3/06 he sings in “Vespri Siciliani” and the creation of “Perela, L’Homme de Fumée” by Dusapin at the Bastille, in ”Les Troyens” and “Tannhauser” at the Paris Châtelet and the Ermit (“Freischutz”) in Montpellier, Bonzo at the Capitole Toulouse, in “Madama Butterfly”, Tom (“Ballo in Maschera”) in Nice, Zuniga and Angelotti (Tosca) in Montpellier and at the Châtelet for “Arabella” Basilio in "Barbiere di Seviglia” and Sprecher (Zauberfloete) in Avignon. He also sings in Tchermionouchki by Shostakovich in Toulon, the title role of a creation by Philippe Fenelon with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France.…

2007/2009 :
At the Châtelet, in concert, (Christoph Eschenbach), Palémon in « Thais » later at Lla Fenice. Lothario in Mignon in Avignon; Masetto in Montpellier; In La Gazza Ladra , Le Gouverneur in le Comte Ory in Nantes; Colline in Nice; Ramfis in Avignon ; Arkel, in Metz and Grande Inquistor (Don Carlo) in Prague…

In concert, : Nelson Messe (Orchestre de Mulhouse) ; Le Requiem de Verdi in Pau Dvorak’s Stabat Mater at l’Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and at the Tchaikovski Symphony Orchestra in Moscow (M° Fedosseyev).

Nicolas Courjal was awarded The Gerard Arnhold Bursary at the 2001 Wexford Festival.
