Alexei TANOVITSKI |
Alexei Tanovitski was born in
Minsk (Belarus) in 1976 where he received his early musical education.
As his passion and talent for performing grew, he was naturally attracted
to St. Petersburg where, in the halls of the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory,
he has developed into one of Russia's brightest young stars.
His enormous potential was recognized in 1999 when he was aptly awarded
the "Hope" prize in the Elena Obrascova International Competition
in St. Petersburg. Following his admission to the Mariinsky Academy of
Young Singers in the same year, he became a regular player on the stage
of the Mariinsky Theater, performing such demanding bass roles as Raymond
(Lucia di Lammermoore), Don Alfonso (Cossi fan tutte), Vaarlam (Boris
Godunov), Prince Galitsky (Prince Igor), Rene (Iolanta) and Tsar Dodon
(Le Coq d'Or). Indeed, for his efforts in this last production, he was
awarded the Russian Prime Minister's prize for the best performance from
the Mariinsky Theater in 2003.
Given his refreshing style, power and range, it is hardly surprising that
Alexei has appeared on many of the world's premier stages under the direction
of the most prominent conductors.
His tours with the Mariinsky Opera under Maestro V. Gergiev have included
residencies at Covent Garden in London, La Scala in Milan, and the Metropolitan
Theater in New York.
His astonishing repertoire, which includes roles such as Zaccaria (Nabucco)
and Boris Godunov (Boris Godunov), has also been on display at Teatro
Real Madrid, the San Carlos Opera in Lisbon, the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow
and Tokyo Bunka Kaikan and has included direction by Y. Basmet, G. Nozeda
and P. Jarvi.
His performances of Banko (Macbeth) for the Hungarian National Opera in
Budapest have been so well received that he has become a certain guest
of this house in upcoming seasons.
Finally, one should not forget his performance of the Verdi Requiem in
the Tchaikovsky Philharmonic Hall in Moscow.
In the words of a recent critical reviewer, "Tanovitski's beautifully
sonorous voice, with its perfect intonative cleanliness, leaves the audience
completely spellbound".
It is as his singing proficiency continues to grow and his career further
advances, that he carries the mantle of hope, bestowed upon him in his
youth, forward into the future.
