Elsa MAURUS

 

After completing a Masters in Modern Literature, Elsa Maurus studied singing with Eugénia Besala-Ludwig, the mother of Christa Ludwig, then with Heidi Raymond in Geneva. She made her debuts at the Nantes Opera House in Léo Delibes’s “Le Roi l’a Dit”.Then in Rouen, she played Rosine in “The Barber of Seville”, directed by Marc Adam in January 1994. That same year, Georges Pretre cast her in the role of Mara in the “Opéra d’Aran” by Gilbert Bécaud, which he conducted at the Konzerthaus in Vienna, with the Wiener Symphoniker.
Elsa Maurus made her entry in the record world with Gouvy’s Requiem, which was awarded the “Diapason d’Or” and a “Choc du Monde de la Musique”. She also recorded the soundtrack for Fina Torrès’s film, Mécanique Célestes, which is the story of a young Rossini singer (Sony records).

A beautiful recitalist, she magnificently sang Mahler’s Lieders at Radio France and Schubert’s Lieder during the Folles Journées in Nantes. She was accompanied by Slyvie Leroy at the Villa Médicis, Susan Mannof at the Salle Gaveau and Alain Planès at the “Summer Nights” la Baule Festival at the Festival d’Ile de France with Emmanual Strosser, at Radio France et National Library in Paris as well as at the Capitole in Toulouse.

After the success of Debussy’s “Martyre de Saint Sébastien” conducted by Georges Pretre at the Rome Opera House, and the success of César Franck’s “Béatitudes” with the National Orchestra of Ile de France, and her participation to Cinderella in Toulouse, she appears at the Musikverein with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Georges Pretre in a revival of Debussy’s “Martyre de Saint Sébastien” (June 1998). Then she performs “The First Night of Walpurgis” by Mendelssohn at the Théatre des Champs-Elysées with the National Orchestra conducted by Jeffrey Tate; Mozart’s Requiem at the Vladimir Spivakov Festival in Colmar (July 1998); at the Festival of French Music in Laon (November 1998) singing Ropartz’s Requiem.

She sings many Mahler concerts : Das Lied von der Erde, 2.nd 3rd Symphonies) in Japan with M° Inoue and the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra “Le Martyre de St Sébastien “at La Scala with M° Prêtre, “Roméo et Juliette” by Berlioz in Paris, “Dialogues des Carmélites” by Poulenc in Italy, Mahler “Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen” with V. Spivakov.

Bernstein’s “Jeremiah” with Orchestre National de Lille, A Verdi Concert in Paris with the Teatro Regio Torino 2001, a Mozart Requiem in Genova with V.Spivakov, , also in Bonn with B. Soustrot, “Shéhérazade” by Ravel at the Utah Symphony Orchestra, “Berlioz’ “Les Nuits d’Eté “ at the Orchestre National de Lille, both under Jean-Claude Casadesus, Le Martyre de St Sebastien à Madrid avec Lorin Maazel, Carmen in Nantes, Wellgunde (Walküre) in Toulouse, Dulcinée in “Don Quichotte” by Massenet in Marseille as well as Susuki in “Madame Butterfly”, Nicklaus in Caen, Eva Lückes’ Elefant Man by Laurent Petitgirard in Nice. Dulcinée in Torino a Mahler concert with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Berlioz “L’Enfance du Christ” with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg

2004/2005 she sings Nicklaus (Contes d ‘Hoffmann) at the Macerata Festival and at
the Scala, she also appears in Toulouse and at the Châtelet Paris in” La Rondine” and
gives a recital at the Orchesterd e Paris.

She recorded Berlioz “Nuits d’Eté” and Chausson’s “Poème de l’Amour et de la Mer”, with the Orchestre National de Lille for Naxos
