Yikun CHUNG

 

Yikun Chung was born in 1970 and raised between a mother who majored in Piano and a father who is a doctor in Masan, Korea. As a 4-year-old child, he started taking piano lessons and at 6, he won a prize at a singing competition where he participated for the first time.

He was taught by Dan-yol Lee at Seoul High School, and also by In-Soo Park at Seoul National University and he made his first appearance in 1990 as a leading tenor in Don Pasquale.
He studied in Milan, at the Conservatorio Verdi and got his diploma while being taught by F. Oegeas.
In 1995, for the first time he attended the Concours held by French musical society and got the first prize there. Starting from that, he received prizes from Concours at Geneva, Toulouse, Bilbao, Monte Carlo, Wien, Madrid, Rovereto, and G.Aragal.

In 1997-1998, he has performed with many different artists such as Leo Nucci,
R.F. De Burgos, Fabio Luisi, P Pizzi, D Baldwin, in Paris, Milano, Wien, Madrid, Geneva, Salzburg, Klagenfurt, Monte Carlo, Avignon, Luzern, Kassel, Berlin, Vichy, Basel, Gibralta. Especially, he was performing as a leading tenor at opera
La Traviata, Dialogue des Carmélites, Tristan and Isolde, La Bohême, Macbeth, Capuletti e Montecchi, Nabucco, Stiffelio, Der Rosenkavalier, Carmen, Rigoletto, Das Land des Lächelns, Lucia di Lammermoor, Goyescas, La Vida Breve and Euriante.

He has sung Don Jose (Carmen) with Maestro Myung Whun Chung, Jerome Savary and Radio France Orchestra in Tokyo (in september 2004) and Alfredo(Traviata) at Grosses Festspielhaus in Salzburg (October 2005).
