He was born in Cordoba,
Argentina and studied at the Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón
where he graduated. Later he studied with Mº Alfredo Bonta and Carlos
Guichandut. He sang a small role at the Teatro Colón, it was in
Manon by Massenet in 1971 where Nicolai Gedda and Beverly Sills sang the
main roles. He departed for Europe, where he studied with the tenor Miguel
Barrosa and the famous soprano Gina Cigna. He was rewarded with many important
awards such as Toulouse, Viñas, and Lauri Volpi.His European debut
was at Teatro San Carlos de Lisboa, and singing aftrewards in the most
important Opera Houses in the world such as Scala, Covent Gaeden, Metropolitan,
Staatsoper von Vienna, and Munich, Opera House of San Francisco, Teatro
Colón de Buenos Aires, Liceo de Barcelona, Berlín and Tokio
among many others. In the Staatsoper von Vienna, he sang Don Carlos, with
Claudio Abbado, and returned many times for others important productions
as Werther, La Boheme, Cavalleria Rusticana, Carmen, The tales of Hoffmann,
Fedora and Tosca, among the most important. At the Met he sang many times
in different productions such as Il Tabarro, La Boheme, Carmen, Traviata,
Adriana Lecouvreur, etc. He also sang Boheme in Frankfurt, Colonia and
Vienna.During the last years, he sang Carmen under Zubin Metha's baton,
Requiem by Verdi with Osawa, Carmen with Teresa Berganza in Madrid, Adriana
Lacouvreur with Mirella Freni and James Levine at the Met, Fedora with
Agnes Baltsa in Zurich, Tosca and Cavalleria at Hamburg etc. In Spain,
he sang at the Madrid Cultural '92, Expo'92, V Centenario, Festival de
la Cartuja 94 etc. He recorded: Le Roi de Lahore, Gemma Di Vergy, Cosi
fan tutte, Carmen and Don Carlos. Next recordings will be: Andrea Chenier
and Pagliacci.After his triumphs in Europe and North America, and receiving
international acclaim as one of the most promising tenors, he made his
official debut at the Teatro Colón in 1982, where he replaced Placido
Domingo as Cavaradossi in Tosca with Eva Marton, Gian Piero Mastromei,
Mario Peruso. In the same theater he sang: Un Ballo in maschera, Romeo
and Juliet, L'elisir d'amore, Mefistofele with Adelaida Negri and Ghiuselev,
La Boheme, Werther, Faust, Don Carlos with Leona Mitchell, Vasili Gherello,
Furlanetto,/ Lloyd, Cassola and Miguel Angel Veltri and Tosca with Gorchakova
and Yuri Vedeneiev.
