Valeriy SERKIN

 

Tenor Valeriy Serkin, who was born in Ukraine, studied at the Music Academy of Moscow and obtained his diplomas in 1991. From 1991 to 1994, he sang at the Stanislawski Theatre in Moscow, interpreting his first roles, in particular that of Lenski in Eugene Onegine, Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, and the Young Gypsy in Aleko by Rachmaninoff.
In 1993, he was engaged to sing the role of Dorvil in La Scala di Seta by Rossini at the Kammer Oper of Vienna where he subsequently sang the role of Filipetto in I Quatro Rusteghi by Wolf Ferrari and Werther.

In 1994, he participated in the Festival of Wexford by singing the role of Prince Sinodal in The Devil by Rubinstein, and was then invited by the Academia Santa Cecilia of Rome to interpret Mozart in Mozart and Salieri by Rimsky-Korsakov.

In 1995, he sang Lenski at Innsbruck and Renard by Stravinskiy at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

In 1996, he went to Lausanne, again for the role of Mozart in Mozart and Salieri, as well as the title role of Werther, before being invited to the Festival of Bergenz for Le Roi Arthus by Chausson.

Valeriy Serkin then made his debut in the United States in the role of Lenski, at the West Palm Beach Opera. In 1997, he interpreted the Stabat Mater by Rossini in Hamburg, and was invited to Vienna for the “Mozart in Schönbrunn” festival. In November and December 1997, he made his first appearance at the Opera of San Francisco in the role of Lenski, followed by that of Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte, at the West Palm Beach. He also interpreted Raymond in The Maid of Orleans by Tchaikovsky in Strasbourg. Since 1999, he has been the singer in residence at the Opera of Dusseldorf.

During the season 2000-2001, he was invited by the National Opera of Paris to sing in War and Peace, and he accepted the role of Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni at the Grand Théâtre in Tours, followed by Avignon. He then participated in the Lehar Festival in Bad Ischl, Austria, where he sang the title role of Tsarevich.

Among his future plans, he will participate in the revival by the National Opera of Lyon of Tri Sestri by Peter Eötvös at the Théâtre du Châtelet, and then in Amsterdam, Budapest and La Monnaie in Brussels. He will also sing the role of the Duke of Mantova in Rigoletto in Dusseldorf.
