Vladimir SPIVAKOV

 

Born in Ufa in a family of musicians Vladimir Spivakov studies the violin at theTchaikowsky Conservatory of Music in Moscow in the class of the famous violinist andteacher Youri Yankelevitch as well as the direction of orchestra with the Professor Guzman, closest friend to Chostakovitch while following the advices of David Oïstrakh.

He is getting an impressive series of prizes at the great international competitions: Long-Thibaud in Paris, Paganini in Genova, Tchaikowsky in Moscow, etc…

He also gets a brilliant First Prize at the International Violin Competition in Montreal and after a triumphant tour in the States and numerous concerts in Europe, he is starting a prestigious career in the West.

The most prominent symphonic orchestras of the world are welcoming him like Chicago, New York, London, Los Angeles, Vienna, San Francisco, Amsterdam, Saint Petersburg, Berlin, Dresden, Roma, etc…

The greatest conductors are conducting him: Abbado, Giulini, Solti, Bernstein, Ozawa, Maazel, Temirkanov…

Vladimir Spivakov made his debut at the Orchestre de Paris in 1997 with theTchaïkovski Concerto.

During the season 1997/1998 Vladimir Spivakov notably is the soloist of Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra in New York. He makes a four-week tour in America with two sold out concerts in Carnegie Hall and conducts the San Francisco Orchestra, the Houston Orchestra, etc…

Engagements during 1998/1999 season included performances with the Dresdner Philharmonie, the San José Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, the Radio Symphony Orchestra of Berlin,the Vancouver Symphony, the Orchestre National d'Ile de France, as well as concerts with the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra, the Houston Symphony, the Seattle Symphony, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice, the Orchestre National de Lille, the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne.

In October 1997 Spivakov starts a series of recitals by Paris (Théâtre des Champs-Elysées) with the great Korean pianist Kun Woo Paik and plays the same program in Moscow, Madrid, Rome, Switzerland and all important countries in Europe.

During 1998/1999 season he performs in Recital at the Festival of Ascona, the FestivalFrancescatti in Marseille and with the pianist Kun Woo Paik at Avery Fisher Hall inNew York with an absolute triumph as well as their recital in Carnegie Hall (May2000) receiving from a packed audience a standing ovation.

In 1999 he is nominated Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Russian National Orchestra succeeding to Mikhail Pletnev.

He has recorded for BMG Classics more than 25 CDs and several of them receivedthe highest awards both from the press and by different Academies of Recording.

He has recorded some major pieces of the 20th century, lots of encores as wellas " pieces of bravura " for violin called " Méditation ".

But he has also recorded the Tchaikowsky, Brahms Double, the Sibelius with Temirkanov and either the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra or the most prestigious orchestras in London.

The Sibelius recording with Temirkanov has had in the international press afabulous acclaim, notably in the United States.

Vladimir Spivakov is member of the jury of the most prestigious international violin competitions and has been the President of the last four Sarasate Competitions in Spain.

He is the artistic director of one of the most exclusive and prestigious festival of music in Western Europe in Colmar (Alsace), France. Some of the great artists of the world are joining him there for the first fortnight of July.

Vladimir SPIVAKOV is playing one of the rarest violins of the world: a magnificent Stradivarius of 1712 called the " Hrimali " whose sound is simply unbelievable.

His celebrity is such in Russia that the Russian astronauts have named a comet with his name: the Spivakov Comet.
