ZHU |
Praised as "An extraordinary technical
ability, an artist of affecting humility and beautiful tone production"
by the Strad magazine, a rising international violinist, Dan Zhu, made
his Carnegie Hall debut at the age of 18 performing Tchaikovsky Violin
Concerto. He has given concerts in North America, Europe, and in Asia.
As a soloist, he has appeared with l'Orchestre National de Belgique, the
National Symphony Orchestra of China, l'Orquestre de Cadaques, l'Orchestre
National d'ile de France, l'Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal, and l'Orchestre
Royal de Chambre de Wallonie. As a chamber musician, he collaborated with
such artists as Philippe Entremont, Richard Goode, Paul Meyer, Jean-Yves
Thibaudet, performing at Marlboro Festival (USA), Prades-Casals Fesival,
Festival Pontlevoy, Festival de Giverny (France), and Spoleto Festival
(Italy). Dan Zhu's performances has been heard through the major medias,
CBC (Canada), NHK (Japan), Radio Classique (France), France Musique, RAI
(Italy).
His 2006-07 season includes, recitals in New York (Carnegie-Weill hall),
Munich (Herkulessaal), Paris (Grand Salon of Invalides), Washington D.C.(Chinese
Embassy), Concerto tours of 15 cities in Germany and in England with the
Munich Symphony Orchestra under Philippe Entremont, Witold Lutoslawski
Philharmonic Orchestra in Poland, with Vienna Chamber Orchestra at Santo-Domingo
Festival, New Year's concerts with China Philharmonic in Beijing, and
concerto tour with Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra in China with Long Yu.
A new record release of Cesaer Franck Sonata and Chamber music with pianist,
Philippe Entremont, by the Swiss label, Cascavelle at the end of 2007,
which was awarded the choice of Le Monde de La Musique.

n 2008, Dan Zhu's engagements will bring him to London (British Museum),
Mexico City (Festival de Mexico), Paris (Salle Gaveau), Sao Paolo, Washington,
D.C.( National Gallery of Art) etc., concerto appearances with Hong Kong
Philharmonic, Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra,
tour with Northern Netherland Orchestra in Holland.
Mr. Zhu has won several prestigious international competition awards:
Laureates at Concours Reine Elisabeth in Brussels and Concours Musical
International de Montreal , Bronze Medals at the Sendai International
Music Competition in Japan and the China International Violin Competition,
First Prize at the Waldo Mayo Memorial Competition for Young Gifted Violinists.
Dan Zhu, a native of Beijing, made his first public appearance at the
age of 9, performing the Mendelssohn violin concerto with the China Youth
Chamber Orchestra. At 12 he entered the Central Conservatory of Music
in Beijing, studied with Xiao-zhi Huang. Four years later Mr. Zhu was
awarded full scholarship (Alexis Gregory Scholarship) to study with Lucie
Robert at The Mannes College of Music in New York. In 2003, he received
the Premier Prix de Violon of The Fontainebleau American Conservatory.
Mr. Zhu regularly works with Christoph Eschenbach, Ivry Gitlis, Gerard
Poulet, Ruggiero Ricci and Aaron Rosand. Dan's interest in other field
of arts, has led his music to a close association with the celebrated
French architect group, Arte-Charpentier, they have made a series of creative
collaborations between music and architecture in Paris and Shanghai. His
concert attire is exclusively designed by "Blanc de Chine" of
Hong Kong.
In March 2007, Dan Zhu is named as "one of the emerging Chinese international
musicians today" by the Gramophone magazine.
Currently, Mr. Zhu is playing on a Carlo Antonio Testore violin of 1763,
generously loaned by the Alexis Gregory Foundation.
